Cory Albert developed his entrepreneurial spirit early on. At just 16 years old, this young man from Gatineau started a small clothing business, selling to his schoolmates. After a while, he realized the difficulty of expanding outside his region in this already saturated market.
Determined to quickly secure his financial future and establish a solid foundation for starting a family, he researched and discovered the potential of real estate. At the age of 19, with the help of his grandparents’ line of credit and a lot of perseverance, he managed to acquire his first triplex. “It wasn’t easy. I made several mistakes and worked hard. Initially, I wanted to buy this triplex for my retirement. Then, thanks to my learning and a lot of effort, I developed a real estate portfolio that has become a family heritage.” Now at 23, he owns 100 units, and soon this number is expected to increase to 165 properties across Canada. “I owe my success in part to the collaboration with my partners and the importance I place on my tenants by investing in their well-being.”
When asked what he has learned since his first acquisition, he mentions three specific aspects to succeed in this field:
– Surround yourself with people who have complementary strengths to form a team that covers all facets of real estate. “I made several mistakes in the beginning because I was alone in the project. It goes fast, but not far. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to have a mentor who advises me, and I also work with people who share my vision. We help each other achieve our goals.”
– The first acquisition is always the most complex. “It’s the hardest because you have to find the down payment and you lack experience. You often also lack confidence in your abilities. You must dare.”
– In real estate investing, money can’t be the only motivation. “You also need to demonstrate ethics, think of others, your tenants, your family, and your team to be successful.”
This ambitious young man has big plans for the future. He aspires to reach 1,000 properties in Canada and internationally within three years. In addition to growing his real estate portfolio, Cory Albert shares his knowledge by offering training. He also shares his journey on social media, particularly on TikTok where over 119K people follow him. “Beyond all this, I wish to have a positive impact on the lives of people who work with me, live in my properties, or want to invest in real estate,” concludes Cory Albert.
